Saving Throw

A roll to avoid or lessen something bad happening to you, such as a trap, poison or a spell.

A saving throw (or "save") is your character's chance to resist danger. You roll, the rules add your modifiers, and the total is compared with a Difficulty Class (DC). Reach it and you avoid or reduce the effect. Saves are usually named after an ability, e.g. a Dexterity save to dodge a blast.

In Fantasy RPG

Fantasy RPG: d20 + the ability modifier, plus the proficiency bonus if the class is proficient in that save. Meet or beat the DC to succeed. Monsters use their listed save bonus.
